Revised Annotation3

In recent years, lots of sexually attractive females can be seen at every exhibition. They are showgirls. Some records have stated that females are frequently objectified and commercialized in order to satisfy the desire of males in a patriarchal and capitalistic society. Due to the changing trends, saleswomen reveal different appearances in various frameworks of exhibition. Showgirls have become the key persons in the exhibition; their mission is not only to soften the atmosphere penetrated by cold hard products, but also to attract visitors, engage in customer relations, and achieve the expected turnover.
As I mentioned in the Annotation2, “showgirl” is an occupation similar to general Ad model while their workplaces are merely in Year End Party of the company, exhibition, press conference, product launching ceremony and road show, etc. Showgirls are models who dress dazzlingly with uniform, drumming buyers up for the products.
However, female legislators as well as representatives of woman’s organization blast that this kind of occupation exists the suspicion of implicating the objectification of the females which also degrades the image of woman. They claim that the authority ought to step in to help correct this social malady. While it just neglects the marketing mechanism and the economic aspects. The commercial strategy is able to promote business and the development of economy.

Grounding on the research, showgirls do not necessarily attract consumers with pure intentions to purchase their desired products, but they do attract consumers who love to ogle showgirls or who just want to spend their free time at the exhibition. That is, showgirls even capture costumers who are originally not going to purchase. Another research, a demographic statistic, presents that those showgirls do attract many students under the age of 25, and they were willing to go change their purchase intention. Furthermore, most of showgirls have bountiful income. The high quality of their economic capital promotes their quality and capability of purchasing; and then promotes the development of economy which all in all is a positive circulation of marketing. Showgirls absolutely create double business opportunity.

Hi my name is Niki, my name is Phoebe.
Niki: our topic is “is it appropriate to use showgirl as a commercial strategy?”
Before we start our presentation, we have a question for you first.
Phoebe: Have you ever been to an exhibition?
Kevin: Yes
Phoebe: And what is the most eye-catching thing when you arrive in the display?
Kevin: um…for me, of course is not a showgirl (everyone laugh)
Phoebe: then what is that?
Kevin: the stuff display there
Niki: the what? Oh, stuff
Kevin: yeah, for example cars
Phoebe: product
Kevin: yes, product
Niki: …….(her point)
Phoebe: I hold another opinion to showgirl, but just as Niki mentioned, there is, in recent years, there are also many female legislators and representatives of woman’s organization hey blame that this kind of career just has the suspicion of degrading woman’s image and also implicating the female commodification. And they claim that the authority should step in to help correct this social malady. But I think when the authority really steps into it, they would just neglects the marketing mechanism and the economic aspects. And according to a research, showgirls don’t really have effect on buyers with pure intentions to purchase their desired products, but they do attract buyers who love to watch showgirls or just want to spend their free time at the exhibition. So that is, showgirls even capture costumers who are originally not going to buy anything in the display. Another statistic shows that those showgirls do have strongly attracted many students especially under the age of 25, and they, those students, if they want showgirl to maybe have interaction with them, they will change their intention to but anything. And I want to show you a short link having connection to my point. We can see from the new that lots of indoorsmen and lots of and lots of men they went to the exhibition for showgirls and showgirls help the business achievement, too. And this news also have a connection with one of the findings of the research that showgirls’ physical attractiveness increases consumers’ intention to stay longer in the exhibition, so if they stay longer, the salesmen can have much more time and chance to introduce the products to the buyers and maybe they will bring about buyers’ desire for buying. And so I think we can just consider this career as a pure commercial strategy, and we don’t have to force sense of morality on these girls.

Reflection1

Although we change the topic, we still encounter some problems at first. Confusion of which sphere of research should we discuss ‘cause this topic could lead to various areas and aspects. Through lots of discussion and changing mind, we finally decided to direct to the economy aspect. Finding out interrelated data and materials in economic aspect about showgirl is kind of difficult at some degrees. Most of the resources are about showgirls themselves and critiques of morality as well as female objectification. We even ran into the bottleneck again that we were not able to do deeper. After the discussion with professor, we then find out the relationship among showgirls, female objectification, female commodification and commercial benefit. There are various researches and essays about these subjects yet we have to digest the information we need from a mass of essays.

Robert and Knot, this team impresses me and attracts me at the beginning. Because at first I did not have any interest in their topic, subject about economy or policy always decrease my interest. They are usually boring and difficult. However, when I took a glance at their annotation, it stirs my interest successfully. Their descriptions and skills of narration allow this originally boring and difficult issue to be easy to understand as well as interesting. And I think their directions of points are rather special rather than those cliché of economic issues. Doing research on same realm as them, I think we still have space to learn from them.
